Barbecue sauce is one of my favorite things to slab on my vegan meat alternatives. If you’re looking for a delicious, sweet barbecue sauce recipe that is sure to please vegans and meat-eaters alike, look no further than this vegan blueberry barbecue sauce! Made with fresh blueberries, this sauce is sweet, tangy, and slightly smoky, thanks to the addition paprika. It’s perfect for slathering on grilled tofu or tempeh, or using as a dipping sauce for vegan chicken nuggets. Trust me, this sauce is so good, you’ll want to put it on everything!

This sauce is so easy to make because once you bring everything to a boil, you just have to let simmer for an hour before you have something perfectly sweet to add to any dish. It has the savoriness of traditional barbecue sauce with a slight sweetness like jam. This sauce also makes plenty so you will have enough to have left overs. Lately I have been making this sauce in bulk and storing in a mason jar to keep in the fridge for later. I never have to turn to the store bought sauce again.

If you are like me and avoid sugar when you can, you can very easily swap out the maple syrup for agave nectar or a monkfuit maple syrup which is my personal favorite for this dish. You get all the sweetness without all the sugar.

When making this blueberry barbecue sauce the first thing you want to do is add everything to a sauce pan. Cook on high until everything comes to a boil. Once your sauce is bowling, turn your flame down low let everything sit on the low flame for 1 hour. After an hour your sauce should be thick and sticky. You can taste test and add more salt, pepper or paprika if you please.

Feel free to experiment with different spices to expand the flavor or even try upping up the sweetness level with extra maple syrup.

That is everything you need to do to make this perfectly sweet blueberry barbecue sauce. I love how simple, quick and easy this recipe is. Plus, it’s always nice to have a homemade barbecue sauce on hand because you know exactly what’s going into it. No shady ingredients here!

So, if you’re looking for a delicious, summery barbecue sauce to make your vegan dishes complete, look no further!
